AI Tool Connections and Route Selection

Check each tool's regional availability first, then review the exit IP and connection path. A working website doesn't mean the API and editor use the same route.

Routes improve the connection path; the tool determines account eligibility and platform access.

AI Access Network Requirements

AI tool access issues aren't always caused by slow connections. Regional availability, exit IP reputation, account permissions, and app proxy settings can all affect the outcome. VPNFile subscriptions organize routes by region and cover 90+ countries with 240+ routes. Always check the tool's current official service regions and account requirements before use.

Regional Availability and Exit IPs

Platforms may assess your exit IP, account details, billing region, and login activity when determining your access environment. Choosing a route in a particular region doesn't automatically make your account eligible there. If a page says the region isn't supported, check the platform's official guidance instead of repeatedly switching countries and logging in. An exit IP's reputation and shared usage are also separate from a route label such as IEPL, relay, or direct.

Persistent Connections and Streaming

Streaming text, continuous code completion, file uploads, and task status updates all rely on a stable connection. If the homepage loads but a response stops partway through, the cause could be network instability, a proxy timeout, an app error, or platform load. Judge a route by whether a full request completes in practice, not just by the client's connection test.

Quantum encryption is one of VPNFile's connection security features. It doesn't change an AI platform's regional, account, or content rules, and it doesn't replace the app's own access controls.

Compare Tool and Route Requirements

Use this table to guide your checks, not as a list of guaranteed working options. Tool availability, account benefits, and client behavior can change, so check the official documentation before use. Route types indicate paths you can compare; they don't guarantee a particular exit IP or access outcome.

Tool × Route Requirements
Tool Check First Route Selection Common Misconception
ChatGPT Supported regions, login sessions, and streaming responses Keep the exit IP within a supported region; compare IEPL dedicated routes with relay routes Assuming API access works because the chat site loads
Claude Regional eligibility, IP environment, and login prompts Confirm the region first, then choose a path that can complete requests reliably Switching routes repeatedly despite an account review prompt
Gemini Google account eligibility, product availability by region, and sessions Choose a region supported by the specific product and check domain routing Mistaking account restrictions for a node issue
Copilot Product in use, organization policies, and authentication flow Keep login, callbacks, and feature requests on a consistent path Confusing Microsoft Copilot with GitHub Copilot
Midjourney The current access point, task submission, and resource loading Check the website and access point connection, including uploads and image resources Resubmitting a task as soon as an image fails to load
Cursor Editor process, login callback, and model requests Ensure the editor's actual requests use the expected path, then test streaming completion Assuming the editor is using a proxy because the browser works

For ChatGPT and Claude, check whether responses keep streaming in the chat interface. For Gemini, distinguish the web product from developer APIs and their separate rules. When using Copilot, identify which product you mean; organization-managed coding assistants may also be subject to admin policies. Midjourney tasks don't run entirely on your device, so queue times and generation failures aren't necessarily route issues. For Cursor, check model selection, account limits, and service status separately from your local connection.

Check the Account and Login Stages

Keep the two accounts separate: your VPNFile account manages plans, clients, and subscription files; each AI tool account is managed by its platform. VPNFile requires no email address; create an account with a username and password. This doesn't apply to third-party platforms. Follow the tool's own prompts for required information, regional availability, and any additional review.

  1. Confirm Service Eligibility First

Check the tool's official supported regions and account requirements. If a regional or organization-level restriction is already clear, resolve the eligibility issue first. A successful network connection doesn't grant account access or change the platform's terms.

  2. Keep the Login Path Consistent

Choose a route before signing in. Keep the network environment consistent across authorization pop-ups, identity provider pages, and the redirect back to the app. Switching exit IPs repeatedly mid-login may invalidate your session or trigger additional checks.

  3. Use the Error Message to Troubleshoot the Session

If login loops, check that your browser allows required cookies and that extensions aren't blocking authentication pages. You can compare using a separate browser profile, but don't change the route, browser settings, and account details all at once; otherwise, it's hard to tell what helped.

If the platform says your account is restricted or requires an appeal, use its official support process. VPNFile support can help check your subscription and connection path, but can't restore an AI platform account, change its risk assessment, or grant model access.

Differences Between Web and API Connections

Web apps typically rely on browser sessions, scripts, authentication domains, and resource domains. If you see only the page shell while the chat area keeps loading, some requests may not be using the expected route. Check which client rules match, then review failed requests in your browser's developer tools. Seeing the page title alone doesn't prove the connection is working properly.

API calls also depend on keys, project permissions, billing status, model names, and usage limits. Access to web chat and developer APIs may be separate. If the server returns a clear authentication, permission, quota, or rate-limit error, follow the API documentation; changing routes generally won't fix these account or service errors.

Streaming Requests Need an End-to-End Connection

API streaming often returns data over a persistent connection. Timeouts and buffering in your terminal, SDK, reverse proxy, or gateway can delay or interrupt the response. Compare a standard request and a streaming request using the same model, then check whether each intermediary supports the API's transport method. If the request has already reached the platform, don't retry blindly; you could duplicate the task or incur extra usage.

When sharing error details, include the error category, time, and request ID. Redact keys, full subscription links, session cookies, and request bodies containing private information before submitting them.

Configuration Tips for CLI, IDE, and CI

CLI: Verify the Process Is Using the Proxy

Turning on the system proxy doesn't mean terminal apps will use it. Check the proxy documentation for your CLI tool or SDK, then configure it with the local listening address shown in the client. Some programs read HTTPS_PROXY, HTTP_PROXY, or ALL_PROXY; others require explicit flags. Check the specific tool's documentation for supported variables and protocols rather than assuming they work everywhere.

Check whether NO_PROXY is unintentionally excluding the target domain. After changing environment variables, restart existing terminals and processes before testing; they may still have the old environment. Local addresses in containers, subsystems, and remote terminals refer to those environments, not necessarily the device running your desktop client.

IDE: Separate the Editor, Extensions, and Remote Environment

Cursor and other IDEs may open the login page in an external browser while model requests come from the editor itself. Test the login callback and actual code completion separately. Extensions may have their own proxy settings; in remote development, check whether requests come from your local machine or the remote host. After changing settings, restart the relevant processes and test with a simple request that contains no sensitive information.

CI: Runners Don't Inherit Your Personal Computer's Connection

CI jobs run in the runner environment; connecting your personal computer to VPNFile doesn't give them the same exit IP. Configure the runner's outbound route within an organization-approved network architecture, and check that the platform permits the region and use case. Store keys only in CI secret variables and limit log output. Don't put personal subscription links, credentials, or local proxy settings in a public repository.

If your corporate network requires managed certificates, ask an administrator for the correct configuration. Don't disable certificate validation to mask a connection problem. Certificate warnings can also result from system time, proxy settings, or an intermediary network device; identify the cause before sending business data.

Common Symptoms and Causes

Change one condition at a time when troubleshooting. Note the tool, website or client, region, route type, and exact error, then compare with other routes. The symptoms below can help narrow things down, but none identifies the cause on its own.

ChatGPT Won't Load, but Other Sites Work?

First distinguish a DNS lookup failure from a connection timeout or a message returned by the platform. Check whether your routing rules include the domain that actually failed and whether the client subscription is up to date. If the message concerns regional or account eligibility, check the platform's rules. If the connection times out, compare it with another route in the same region.

Claude Reports a Region or Access Environment Issue?

Check the official supported regions and account requirements first, and stop repeatedly switching exit IPs or logging in. A route label doesn't prove that the platform will accept its IP. If the message persists, save a copy of the error with sensitive information redacted and use the platform's support process for account issues.

Does the Response Stop Halfway, Then Continue After a Refresh?

Possible causes include a dropped persistent connection, an app timeout, platform load, or an issue with the current task. Check whether the client reconnects, whether the device goes to sleep, and how standard requests compare with streaming ones. Slower generation may also be due to model processing, not insufficient network bandwidth.

Web Works, but the API, Cursor, or a Plugin Can't Connect?

First identify the process and environment making the request. Check terminal proxy variables, editor settings, remote environments, and rules for the target domain. If the platform has returned an authentication or quota error, check the key and permissions instead of simply switching routes.

Images, Attachments, or Task Status Keep Loading?

Check whether uploads, resource downloads, and status updates use different domains, and confirm the file meets the platform's requirements. Queueing and execution status for tools like Midjourney also depend on the platform. Confirm whether the task was submitted before trying again to avoid duplicate actions.

For help checking subscription updates, DNS, or background connections on your device, see the Complete Troubleshooting Guide. When you contact VPNFile support, include the platform, client and operating system, time of the issue, route region, and steps to reproduce it. Don't share account passwords or API keys.

Choose a Route for Your Use Case

For everyday chats, confirm the service region first, then compare connection paths within that region. For long code or writing sessions, focus on complete responses and stable sessions rather than the lowest latency in a single test. IEPL dedicated routes, relay routes, and direct routes describe different path arrangements; they don't indicate exit IP reputation or guarantee that a tool will always accept access.

For development, test your browser, terminal, editor, and remote runner separately. Confirm the path with a request that contains no project data before connecting to a real project. If a route works for your current tool, keep the environment consistent where possible. If you need to change regions, check the tool's service rules first and note whether you'll need to sign in again.

VPNFile supports Windows / macOS / iOS / Android / Linux with unlimited simultaneous devices, making it easy to check the same use case across devices. Get clients and subscription files from your user dashboard; after signing in, choose the entry for your platform. For iOS, follow the instructions shown in the dashboard. Multiple devices can connect at once, but apps won't automatically share proxy settings.

Choose billing to suit your usage: monthly plans include ¥9.9/month for 60GB, ¥18/month for 250GB, and ¥28/month for 500GB. Data resets monthly on the activation date; mid-cycle upgrades are prorated for the remaining days. For occasional use, data packages are also available: ¥158/300GB, ¥358/1000GB, and ¥658/3000GB. Data lasts until used and never expires. VPNFile offers a 60-day no-questions-asked refund and accepts Alipay / WeChat Pay / USDT. These are network service details and don't include third-party AI account or API usage fees.

Next, review regional routes and route types, then check plan prices and data terms. If you haven't imported your subscription yet, follow the setup guide to configure your client, then return here to verify each item.
